Vol. 3 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - RURAL HOUSING SCHEMES.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there has been any arrangement or agreement between the Free State and the British Government regarding the financial arrangements connected with the various Rural Housing Schemes sanctioned by the British Government in 1913, and suspended at the outbreak of the European War; and whether in view of the amount of unemployment at present existing in the ranks of the building trades in rural areas, he will make provision for such schemes being put into operation during the coming year?

Advances by the British Government out of the Land Purchase Fund for the purposes of Rural Housing have ceased to be available as from the 1st April of the present year. The question of the provision of moneys for this purpose out of the Exchequer of the Free State is contingent upon the general financial position.
