Vol. 3 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - MALLOW—KILLARNEY RAILWAY SERVICE.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he can state when the Railway Service between Mallow and Killarney will be resumed. Is he aware that in consequence of the closing down of this line, a great deal of public works, buildings, road work, sewerage, etc., etc., has been suspended in Killarney and District because of the inability to obtain materials, etc., and the high cost of road transport; and whether he is aware that, as a consequence of the absence of railway transport, many people in Killarney and district are in great distress, owing to unemployment.

I have been asked by the Minister for Industry and Commerce to read his reply: The Railway Maintenance (Repair) Corps have effected the necessary repairs to this line as far as Rathmore, and a Goods and Live Stock Service to the latter station has been put into operation. The Corps are at present working on the line between Rathmore and Killarney, and it is anticipated that all the repairs will be completed within a very short time.
