Vol. 3 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

asked the President, pursuant to his answer to a question on May 3rd relative to the Friendly Societies Act, 1896, if he will state who is the Registrar of Friendly Societies in Saorstát Eireann. And if, pending the decision referred to in his answer on that date, he will introduce a short Act requiring of all such Societies to make a clear financial statement showing the relation of the annual cost of collection to the annual income, for publication by the Department of Industry and Commerce.

With regard to the first part of the question, the functions of the office of Registrar of Friendly Societies in Saorstát Eireann are at present being exercised by Mr. Daniel O'Connell Miley. With regard to the second part of the question, I am not in a position to add anything to the reply I gave the Deputy to his question on the 3rd May on the same subject.

Is it intended to establish the practice that when a questioner is not present, and nobody asks the question in his name, the answer should be given?

When a Deputy who has put down a question is not present, and nobody is authorised to put the question in his name, it is open to the Minister to give an answer the question if he so desires.
