Vol. 3 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - CLAIM FOR OLD AGE PENSION.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state why the claim of Denis Slater, Templederry, Thurles, for Old Age Pension was refused; whether he is aware that this man can produce his Baptismal certificate to prove he is over seventy years of age, and whether he will have the matter inquired into at once.

The claim of Mr. Denis Slater to Old Age Pension was disallowed, not on account of age, but because his means were estimated to exceed £49 17s. 6d. per year.

Is the Minister aware that this man is a journeyman smith who travels around from village to village, and who has no means beyond what he earns?

The law on the subject is that if, during the previous year, his earnings were over £49 17s. 6d., it is not open to the Minister to consider the case.
