Vol. 3 No. 30

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - A KILDARE ARMY VOLUNTEER.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Volunteer Patrick Hughes, of Claregate Street, Kildare, at present serving in the 58th Infantry Battalion, at L Block, Military Barracks, Dundalk, and whose period of service expired on the 4th April, 1923, has made applications for, but has been refused, discharge from the Army; further, whether he is aware that his mother has received no separation allowance in respect of her son, and, as she can obtain remunerative employment for him at home, to ask that the Minister gives orders that this volunteer be immediately discharged.

Arrangements have been made to discharge Volunteer Patrick Hughes, who should have been released in April last when his time expired. As regards dependant's allowance, the claim of his mother was disallowed on the ground that the extent of dependence was less than the minimum required by regulations— namely, 12s. per week—before an allowance may be issued.

Will the boy be discharged?

Yes, forthwith.
