Vol. 5 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DESTROYED PROPERTY (CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION).

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can now state when the Dublin claims for destroyed property, commandeered goods, motor cars, etc., will be heard, and whether the Government propose to take steps to speed up the rebuilding of O'Connell Street.

I presume that the various claims referred to in the Deputy's question are such as come within the scope of the Damage to Property (Compensation) Act, 1923, as amended by the Damage to Property (Amendment) Act, 1923. A commencement will be made with the hearing of Dublin cases in the Michaelmas Sessions now at hand.

Subject to the provisions of the Acts mentioned, the question of rebuilding is one for the owners of the property destroyed, and the imposition of rebuilding conditions rests with the Court. Of course, there must be a full reinstatement condition as in the case of the O'Connell Street area.
