Vol. 6 No. 2

DAIL IN COMMITTEE. - MOTIONS FOR RETURNS.

Under the heading of Private Business, there are three motions for returns. Perhaps the Minister for Local Government will state his views in regard to these?

I have no objection to furnishing the return asked in the first motion:

Motion by Deputy Aodh O Cúlacháin:—

To move for a return showing the salaries and emoluments paid to the secretaries of the several county councils, distinguishing the amounts paid under the various heads of Voters' Lists Jurors, Lists, Old Age Pensions Work, Motor Licences, etc. With regard to the second motion.

Motion by Deputy Aodh O Cúlacháin:—

To move for a return showing the estimates of expenditure on which the schemes of amalgamation of Poor Law Unions were based and the actual expenditure found necessary, as shown by the county estimates for the current year,

we have not got the statistics available at the moment. At the time when amalgamation was decided upon, it was impossible to compile statistics in the ordinary way. My Department is considering the matter, and it is in hands at present, but we will not be able to prepare statistics for some considerable time. With regard to the third motion,

Motion by Deputy John Conlan:—

To move for a return showing:—

(a) The number of officers paid in connection with Athy Union in the year 1918, and the total cost of administration in that year.

(b) The number of officials retired under the Union Amalgamation Scheme of Co. Kildare, with the gross amount of pensions and gratuities granted to such officers, the ages of such officers, and the duties performed.

(c) The number of officials employed in Athy County Home, with a statement of their salaries, bonuses, and duties.

(d) The cost of Athy County Home for 12 months ended September 1st, 1923, with the expenditure on same in the way of buildings and extensions deemed necessary on account of the Amalgamation Scheme,

I have no objection to having this return prepared, and it will be available in a short time.

We may take the second motion as postponed, and it can be raised again.

Agreed.
