Vol. 6 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SPECIAL ROAD WORK IN TIPPERARY.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state his reasons for refusing the necessary sanction to the Thurles District Council and the Nenagh District Council, to enable them to obtain a loan of £10,000 to carry out special road work, which would give much-needed employment in those districts.

The application for sanction to these loans was received on the 3rd instant, and sanction to borrowing is being issued to the County Council to-day.

Arising out of that answer, will the Minister state why sanction was refused, or why sanction has been withheld up to the present time, in view of the fact that we sought to impress upon the Department early last week that if sanction was not got for this grant 450 men would be dismissed last Saturday, and that as a matter of fact 450 were dismissed and are at present unemployed?

It was only because of special consideration in the case that we were able to make this loan available at all.
