asked the Minister for Defence if he has received an application from Mrs. Kate Shiels, of Laurencetown, Ballinasloe, on account of her son, the late Private P. Shiels, No. 12578, who was killed while on duty in Limerick Jail on the 7th February, 1922, and, if so, whether a pension or gratuity has yet been awarded.

In view of the fact that at an inquest held on the 7th February last the jury returned a verdict that Private Shiels had committed suicide, the claim for compensation cannot be entertained.
