Vol. 7 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IRISH BACON INDUSTRY COUNCIL.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what steps have been taken to provide for representatives of the breeders and feeders of pigs on the Council which has been set up by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to deal with the problem of the Irish bacon industry.

The Council referred to is a Joint Council set up by agreement between employers and employees in the Bacon Curing Industry, and breeders and feeders of pigs are accordingly not represented on it. The constitution of the Council, however, permits it to invite other interests into consultation with it, and as a Committee of the Council is now considering the problem of the shortage of pigs in its effect on the bacon factories, the Committee would no doubt be glad to avail of any offer by breeders and feeders of pigs to discuss this matter.
