Vol. 7 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GLASSEALY (KILDARE) O.A.P. CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if the old age pension hitherto paid to Patrick Moran, Glassealy, Ballitore, Co. Kildare, has been reduced by 2s. a week; and if he will state the reason for the reduction, seeing that Moran is over 80 years and altogether without means.

Mr. Moran was granted the full old age pension in April 1914. There was no appeal on the occasion. He resides with his nephew, who holds a farm of 50 acres of good land, valuation £40, rent £28. It is also stated that he has over £142 in the Savings Bank.

The question was, however, raised recently, and when the matter came before me on appeal it was held after investigation that the pensioner's means, as calculated for old age pension purposes (from maintenance and capital), were not less than £42 5s a year, and that, therefore, a weekly pension of only 2s. was allowable in the case.
