Vol. 7 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DEPENDENT'S ALLOWANCE.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Joseph Dooley, of Loughbrown, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, has not received any dependents' allowance in respect of his son, Private John Dooley, Army No. 401, who joined the 1st Eastern Division of the National Army on the 4th July, 1922; further, if he is aware that Private Dooley, who was a motor driver, was ambushed and wounded at Ferrycarrig, Wexford, on the 1st, and died as a result on the 3rd December, 1922, and whether he will have this case considered with a view to the granting of a pension or gratuity as soon as possible.

I am aware of the circumstances of Private Dooley's death. No claim for dependents' allowance was received from his father. The necessary investigations in connection with the claim for pension or gratuity are nearly completed, and steps are being taken to expedite a decision as much as possible.

I presume the decision will be the same as in Mrs. Behan's case?

That will depend on facts.
