Vol. 7 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ALLOWANCE TO BLIND PENSIONER.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the blind pension was granted to Mary Killen, Glasses Lane, Athlone, in December, 1923, and if he is aware that this pension has been reduced by 8s. on the grounds that her husband, who is an old man and a casual labourer, was in receipt of 48s. a week, and as the husband is only temporarily employed, and working about three months in the year, whether he will have this pension restored to the former rate.

A pension of 10s. a week was granted on appeal to Mrs. Mary Killion, Glasses Lane, Athlone, by a decision of the 7th June, 1921. There is no record of the grant of a pension to Mary Killen in December, 1923, and, so far, no appeal has been received upon a question, if raised, for the reduction of the pension granted in 1921.

In the absence of an appeal, I have no power to intervene.

Is the Minister aware that the Pension Officer took away this woman's pension book, and that for the last three weeks she has received no pension? Her husband is only a casual labourer working on the roads, earning 48s. a week, and would the Minister inquire into this case?

I am not aware of that. If an appeal comes before me I will give the facts the fullest consideration.
