Vol. 7 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TELEGRAPH OFFICES IN CO. CAVAN.

(for Pádraig Baxter) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that the charge for the delivery of a telegram in Crosskeys district, Co. Cavan, is 2s.; whether he is aware that the Telegraph Office from which telegrams are delivered in this district is Cavan Office, 8 miles distant, and whether in view of these facts he will consider the advisability of having a Telegraph Office established at Crosskeys Post Office.

Telegrams for Crosskeys are normally delivered from Ballyjamesduff, the nearest Telegraph Office, which is situated within a distance of four miles. The appropriate fee for porterage of a telegram delivered at Crosskeys or its immediate vicinity is 1s. 6d.. but if the address be more than four miles from Ballyjamesduff, the delivery fee would be 2s.

I am not aware that telegrams for the Crosskeys district have been delivered from Cavan, but if they have been, it was probably due to temporary interruption of telegraphic communicateion with Ballyjamesduff.

I shall have inquiry made into the proposal to establish a Telegraph Office at Crosskeys, and will communicate the result to the Deputy.
