Vol. 7 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUTY ON MOTOR PARTS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state the total yield of the duty on motor parts and accessories during the past financial year, and also the approximate cost of collection.

As regards the first part of the question, the total yield of duty on motor car parts and accessories in the year ended 31st March, 1924, was approximately £34,000. As regards the second part, it is impossible to estimate with any approach to accuracy the cost of collection under particular heads of Customs revenue, and I am accordingly unable to give the figures asked for.

Did the Minister not take the factor of the cost of collection into account when he was considering whether he would repeal this duty or not?

I do not think the cost of collection was very serious.
