Vol. 7 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RECONSTRUCTION OF FIDDOWN BRIDGE.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is yet in a position to state definitely what is the cause of the delay on the part of the Great Southern and Western Railway Company in commencing the reconstruction of Fiddown Bridge; whether he is aware that the loss of the bridge causes considerable inconvenience, and that the work of reconstruction would give much-needed employment in the district.

I am informed by the Railway Company that it has had to postpone the reconstruction of this bridge in favour of other more urgent repair work, but that the drawings necessary for letting the contract are in preparation, and will be completed within a fortnight.

Will the Minister be good enough to remind the Railway Company that there is a long stretch of river between Carrick-on-Suir and Waterford over which there is no bridge, and that this bridge is very urgently required for the residents on both sides of the river?
