asked the Minister for Defence if he has yet considered the application made by the Kilrush Branch of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union for compensation in respect of their premises taken over and occupied by the National Army for a long period; whether, in view of the very severe losses suffered by that Branch of the Union, he will expedite consideration and payment of the claim.

The claim of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union in respect of the occupation by troops of the premises they rented in Kilrush is under consideration by the Office of Public Works, which Department deals with claims of this type on behalf of the Army. I am informed that the landlord of the premises has claimed and is being allowed a rent in respect of the premises for the period they were in Army occupation and that the nature of the Transport Workers' claim made it difficult to be dealt with until the premises had been evacuated. Evacuation work took place last month. Consideration of the claim will be expedited.
