Vol. 7 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OPERATIONS OF COURTS OF JUSTICE ACT.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the President if he has any information to give to the Dáil in respect to the intention of the Executive Council regarding the operations of the Courts of Justice Act.

The Executive Council has under consideration at the moment the question of bringing into immediate operation the Courts of Justice Act in so far as it relates to the Supreme Court and the High Court.

The considerations of public convenience and the disposal of public business, and the necessity for considering procedure, make it desirable to allow a somewhat longer interval before bringing the Act into operation as regards the Circuit Court. It is considered that the Act cannot conveniently be brought into operation as regards the District Court otherwise than at the same time as the Circuit Courts are set up. The latter part of the Act will accordingly not be brought into operation until after the conclusion of the Trinity Session in the County Courts.
