Vol. 7 No. 25

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COLLECTION OF RATES BY LANDLORDS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware of the difficulties which are encountered by Local Councils and their collectors in the collection of rates from tenants in the different areas in the Saorstát, and if it is intended to introduce legislation directing landlords to adjust rents so as to include rates and to remit said rates to the local Councils when collected by them.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As it appears to me that legislation of the nature suggested would be of assistance to the administration of Urban District Councils, I would be prepared, when opportunity offers, to consider a measure applicable to premises of low valuation which would be equitable to all interests concerned.
