Vol. 7 No. 29

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SLIGO SHOOTING—CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the grounds on which Mr. John Kivlehan, of William Street, Sligo, was refused compensation for the death of his father, James Kivlehan, who was accidentally shot in the course of an engagement between National Forces and Irregulars on July 6th, 1922.

The application of the person named by the Deputy was carefully considered by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee, and refused by them on the ground that there was no dependency of the applicant upon the deceased.

Arising out of that answer, will the Minister represent to the Commission the desirability of stating the grounds on which compensation is refused when they inform the applicant that no compensation is payable, as otherwise unnecessary questions are put?

I will consider that, though I am sure that the applicants generally know pretty well why the applications are refused.
