Vol. 8 No. 5

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - RESIGNED R.I.C. MAN'S CLAIM (CLARE).

asked the Minister for Finance if he received a claim from Nicholas Nolan, No. 67640, who resigned from the R.I.C. at Six-milebridge, Co. Clare, in August, 1920, and if he has considered his case; whether the applicant is under any disability in its regard, because he is at present in America, and whether payment to him can be expedited.

Nicholas Nolan failed to prove to the satisfaction of the Committee of Inquiry into Resignations and Dismissals from the Royal Irish Constabulary that his resignation on the 10th September, 1920, was caused by his national sympathies, and his application was accordingly not favourably reported on to the Government. The Minister for Finance is unable to issue the necessary certificate under Section 5 of the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1923, which would render Nicholas Nolan eligible for an award of pension.

Is this one of that cases that is likely to be reviewed in the light of the promise given by the Minister for Finance if any additional facts can be brought forward, as I understand they have?

I cannot say. I take it that if the Minister gave that undertaking, this case would come under it, but I am not in a position to give a guarantee about it.
