Vol. 8 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - HOUSING SAILORS AND SOLDIERS.

asked the President whether he is aware of delays that are taking place as regards the progress of schemes in the matter of the provision of housing under the Irish Land (Provision for Sailors and Soldiers) Act, 1919, and whether anything can be done to expedite matters.

In view of the housing shortage, the delay as regards these schemes has been giving me much concern. The administration of the Act is a matter for the trustees who were appointed in February last, and I will communicate with them in the matter.

Is the President aware that under the terms of the trust the trustees appear to have no power whatever, and that they are wholly controlled by the British Treasury?

I do not know whether the President is or is not aware of that. Even if he were, I fail to see what action he could take.
