Vol. 8 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VICTIMISED CIVIL SERVANTS.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state what is the position in regard to the Irish civil servants victimised by the British Government on account of their national sympathies and activities, who have since the Truce been reinstated and who have remained loyal to the Saorstát; how many, if any, have not received compensation for victimisation, and if it is proposed to compensate such civil servants.

I would refer the Deputy to my answer to Deputy Peadar O hAodha on 23rd February, of last year. All applications by civil servants alleging that they were victimised by the British Government on account of their national sympathies and activities have been brought before the Advisory Committee referred to, and reinstatement has been offered in all cases in which the Committee so advised. As I stated in my previous answer, the Government decided that no payment can be made in respect of loss of salary for the period of dismissal or by way of compensation for loss of office.
