Vol. 8 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - ATHLONE POSTAL FACILITIES.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is intended to improve the unsatisfactory postal facilities in Athlone and district; if he is aware of the intention of closing Baylin Sub-Post Office, and that such a procedure will result in old age pensioners having to travel seven and eight miles to Glasson and Walderstown to draw the pension, and if in view of these facts he will allow the Baylin Post Office to remain open; further, if he is aware that the postal delivery in Coosan has been curtailed from a delivery each day to one every three days, and also if he will state why letters which were collected heretofore at Glasson Post Office at 4.30 p.m. are now collected at 10.30 a.m., and if he will revert to the former hour of collection.

I have reviewed the circumstances as regards the maintenance of a Sub-Post Office at Baylin, Athlone, and I have now given instructions that the office should be continued there.

As regards the other matters referred to by the Deputy, inquiry is being pursued and I will communicate further with him later on.
