Vol. 9 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE NATIONAL BANK AND INCOME TAX.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the National Bank, Limited, pays income tax to the Saorstát Authorities for business done in Saorstát Eireann, and, if so, if he will state why Saorstát investors have to apply to the British Treasury for refund, which necessitates great delay.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, the National Bank, Limited, being registered and controlled in Great Britain, all its shareholders (including Saorstát shareholders) suffer British income tax in respect of their dividends, and it is obvious that claims for repayment in respect of such tax must be made to the British authorities.
