Vol. 9 No. 16

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - BALLINASLOE OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what were the circumstances under which Mr. Bryan Hannon, Cloonshivna, Toomard P.O., Ballinasloe, was refused an old age pension.

This claim was disallowed on the 29th January last on the ground of insufficient evidence to show that applicant had reached the age of 70 years. No baptismal certificate was produced, and claimant was recorded as "full age" at marriage on the 17th February, 1876. In the Claim Form he stated that he was 70 years of age, but that he was not certain of the date of birth. A declaration in proof of age from two neighbours was submitted, in which they stated that Mr. Hannon would be 70 years of age on the 15th March, 1924. No reason in support of that statement was furnished, and it was held that the evidence was not sufficient to warrant the grant of a pension.

On the marriage record Mr. Hannon will, in February next, be eligible, on age, for the pension.
