asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that there is urgent need for the provision of some system of agricultural credit in the Saorstát, beyond that available through the ordinary commercial channels; if he has given the recommendations of the Commission on Agriculture; as contained in the Fourth Interim Report, his consideration, and if he proposes to take any steps in the near future to have the recommendations carried out.

I fully recognise the importance of the provision in the Saorstát of a system of credit suited to the special needs of the agricultural industry and the recommendations contained in the report of the Commission on Agriculture, as also the previous recommendation of the Committee on Agricultural Credit referred to therein have been carefully considered. There are practical difficulties in the way of giving effect to the recommendations of the Commission, or, in fact, to any credit scheme, and these have not yet been solved.
