Vol. 9 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SEIZURE OF MOTOR CYCLE.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that a new Imperial motor cycle, the property of Mr. Albert Styles, 4 Kinneagh Cottages, Curragh Camp, was seized at Dún Laoghaire, on the 6th October, 1923, by the officer for Customs and Excise, Kildare, for nonpayment of Customs Duty on import, and if he will state on what terms the cycle can be recovered by Mr. Styles.

The motor cycle in question was imported by Private George Styles, of the British Army, son of Mr. Albert Styles, 4 Kinneagh Cottages, Curragh Camp, at Dún Laoghaire, on the 6th October, 1923. The importer removed the cycle from the pier without producing it to the Officer of Customs and without making provision for the payment of duty. At considerable trouble, the cycle was traced to the residence of Mr. Albert Styles, where it was seized by order of the Revenue Commissioners. The cycle is forfeited under the law, and the question of its restoration to the owner on terms cannot be entertained.
