Vol. 9 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR REPAIRS TO BANTRY PREMISES.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the premises of Mr. T.J. Hourihan, Bantry, were occupied by National Army Troops, which occupation resulted in the complete wreckage of the premises and a serious financial loss to the owner; that the owner is now unable to pay for repairs, and that his claim has not yet been settled, and whether a decision and settlement in the claim will now be made.

The claim referred to has been engaging the attention of the Office of Public Works and the amount that should be offered as fair and reasonable compensation had in fact been fixed.

It has now transpired, however, that another claim which is identical as regards most of its items with the claim for occupation by National troops has been lodged by the same person under the Damage to Property (Compensation) Act, and as the segregation of the different items will necessarily take some little time, it is not possible to say when the first claim will be settled.
