Vol. 9 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that Miss Josephine Murray, John Street, Droichead Nua, Co. Kildare, has Unemployment Insurance stamps for the three years prior to February 18th, 1922, to her credit, and has never received any benefit; that on September 26th, 1924, she was refused payment of benefit for not accepting an offer of employment in Limerick; that she appealed against this decision, but did not get any reply; further, whether in view of the fact that her mother is in poor health and straitened circumstances and requires her daughter to care her at home, he will allow immediate payment of this claim.

The claim to Unemployment Insurance Benefit made by Miss Josephine Murray was disallowed on the 26th September last for the statutory period of six weeks on the statutory ground that the applicant was not unable to obtain suitable employment, having refused an offer of work at Limerick on that date. Miss Murray exercised her right to appeal to the Court of Referees against this decision, and was duly notified of the time and place of the hearing of her case, but she did not attend the Court. The Court of Referees found that the employment offered was suitable, and recommended that the claim should remain disallowed. Miss Murray was notified of the decision. Miss Murray renewed her application after the expiration of the period of disallowance, and her claim is accordingly being reviewed.
