Vol. 9 No. 19

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WEXFORD COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when it is intended to pay the compensation £16 11s. 0d. awarded, to John Foley, Colbert Street, Wexford, by the Shaw Commission in September, 1923.

As a result of enquiry at the offices of the Compensation (Ireland) Commission it has been ascertained that no such award as that referred to by the Deputy has in fact been made.

Would the Minister be surprised to hear that I asked a similar question about five months ago; that the Minister then undertook to find out and communicate with me, and I have not got any word since, so that I had to put down the question again? I have evidence here from the claimant's solicitor that the case was heard and an award made.

The Deputy will realise the difficulty of tracing an award which was never made.

I have evidence here to show that it was made.

The answer shows that no evidence has been submitted to the Minister for Finance to back up what the Deputy is saying.

There must be some looseness in his Department.
