Vol. 9 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FISHGUARD AND ROSSLARE THROUGH BOOKINGS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that pigs bought at Western fairs cannot be booked through via Fishguard and Rosslare Route to Birmingham, and whether he will cause inquiries to be instituted with a view to having through bookings resumed to this market such as are in force via the Port of Dublin.

I am informed that the facts are as stated, but I have no power to require the institution of through rates. The question should be taken up directly with the railway companies concerned, and if that does not result in a satisfactory arrangement I would suggest that the Deputy and others interested should consider whether an application to the Railway Tribunal under the Railways Act would serve their purpose.
