Vol. 9 No. 26

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DISTRICT AND CIRCUIT COURT RULES.

asked the Minister for Justice if he can state when the Rules for the District and Circuit Courts will be ready for presentation to the Oireachtas for sanction; if he is aware that solicitors are complaining about the delay in issuing these Rules; if his attention was drawn to the reference to the matter at the last meeting of the Incorporated Law Society, and if, seeing that the Courts of Justice Act, 1924, came into operation in April last, and the Circuit Courts were set up early in the Summer, there is any reason why practitioners and the public should be inconvenienced to the extent they have been by having no Rules available suitable to the new judicial system.

The District Court Rules will be ready for presentation to the Oireachtas upon its re-assembling after the Christmas recess. I am unable to state when the Circuit Rules will be ready for similar presentation. I am aware that Solicitors are anxious that the Rules should become operative with as little delay as possible; but I am further aware that the drafting of the Rules of Court entails an amount of labour and work, and that since the month of August last the respective draftsmen have been engaged in their tasks and have prepared drafts for submission to their Committees. My attention has not been drawn to any reference by the Incorporated Law Society to the matter.
