Vol. 10 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FERNS COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received a claim for £40 compensation from Mr. D.V. Bolger, Milltown, Ferns, in respect of a gun taken by the National Army in July, 1922; and if he will take steps to have the matter settled as soon as possible.

I have received a claim for £25 from Mr. Bolger. He states that the gun was bought in March, 1909, but is unable to produce documentary evidence as to its purchase. An ex gratia award of £15 was made on the 3rd instant, but he has refused this sum. In view of the facts that the gun was thirteen years old when handed over to the military, and that there is no documentary evidence as to its cost price, it is not proposed to increase the award.
