Vol. 10 No. 19

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE STATISTICAL DEPARTMENT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether sixty men have been dismissed from the Statistical Department, and, if so, if he will state for what reason; and whether their places have been filled by others of less experience.

It is necessary to terminate the appointments of a number of temporary clerks, men and women, partly because of the assignment of permanent clerks successful at a Civil Service examination, and partly by reason of reduction of work. Notices have been issued accordingly to six men, of whom one has been discharged and two more will be discharged on the 4th proximo. The remainder will probably not be discharged for some weeks. These vacancies will be filled either by permanent staff or by temporary clerks transferred from other branches, whose discharge would have involved a greater degree of personal hardship.
