Vol. 10 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LOAN FOR CLIFDEN.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether an application for a loan has been received from the Clifden Rural District Council with a view to performing certain necessary public works in the area and to relieve the great distress in the district, and if he will state what action has been taken or is intended to be taken as a result of this application.

An application has been received from the Clifden Rural District Council for a loan of £3,000 for providing a water supply for the town of Clifden, and sanction to the borrowing of this amount has been given. The work can be proceeded with.

The Council have also applied for sanction to a loan of £3,849 for enclosing and extending various burial grounds. I will require further particulars as to the lands to be acquired before coming to a decision in this instance, and I propose to send an Inspector to the district to report on the several works.

I am also in communication with the British Sailors' and Soldiers' Trust concerning the proposed letting of a site on the old workhouse premises for the purposes of a building scheme.
