Vol. 10 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR DAMAGE TO MOTOR.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has received an account from Mr. Patrick J. Lee, of Ballyshannon, for damage caused to his motor car in a collision with a military lorry on December 24th, 1924; whether a Court of Inquiry was held by the Military Authorities, and whether he will state the finding of the court, and when Mr. Lee may expect compensation for the damage to his car.

A claim for compensation has been received from Mr. Lee. The collision referred to has been investigated by a Court of Inquiry, the findings of which I am not in a position to disclose. It is hoped to arrive at a decision on the claim at an early date.

Is the Minister aware that Mr. Lee is an ex-officer of the National Army, and that he is very handicapped at present owing to his car, which was his means of livelihood, being laid up since December last, and that he has not got any communication of any kind as to whether he is going to get any compensation?

I am sure that any gentleman who loses his car, out of which he earns his living, is discommoded. As far as this case is concerned, every endeavour will be made to have it settled as soon as possible, if the gentleman is to get compensation.
