Vol. 12 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - NATIONAL INSURANCE AND PUBLIC HEALTH—DEPARTMENTAL COMMITTEE'S INTERIM REPORT.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has had the interim Report of the Departmental Committee of Inquiry into National Insurance and Public Health under consideration; if it is his intention to introduce legislation embodying the Committee's recommendations, and, if so, whether he will be prepared to discuss with representatives of insured persons the findings of the Committee before formulating them in a Bill.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As the Appendices to the Report are being printed, and are not, therefore, yet available, and as the whole Report will require very full consideration by the Government, it is obviously premature to express any opinion as to whether and when legislation arising out of the Report will be introduced. Before the introduction of any such legislation, the views of any responsible persons which are brought to the notice of the Government will be considered.

Are we to understand that no decisions have yet been taken by the Minister?
