Vol. 12 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BURNING OF CO. LONGFORD SCHOOL.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that Drumlish National School, Co. Longford, was burned down over four years ago; if since that time teaching has been carried on in a dwelling-house in the village, which is altogether unsuitable for the purpose; if the facts as stated have been laid before the Minister and repeated applications made for a grant towards the rebuilding, and whether, in view of the great inconvenience caused and the danger to the health of the children, steps will be taken to replace the school.

The Department of Education is aware of the destruction of the Drumlish Schools, and of the circumstances in which the schools have been since carried on in temporary premises. A grant towards the cost of providing a new schoolhouse has been sanctioned, and as soon as the lease of the site has been completed, instructions will be forwarded to the manager by the Board of Works in regard to the erection of the new house.
