Vol. 13 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DONERAILE RAID.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the residence of Mr. R. W. Evans, Doneraile, was raided by the Detective Division of the Gárda Síochána and two swords (old family relics), fishing tackle, and accessories were taken therefrom; whether the object of the visit was in connection with a gun stated to have been held by Mr. Evans without a permit; whether this man applied for and paid for a permit several weeks previously, and whether the articles taken from Mr. Evans will be returned.

My information in regard to this matter is that members of the Detective Division of the Gárda Síochána visited the house of Mr. R. W. Evans on the 1st October last under a search order issued in accordance with the provisions of the Firearms Act, 1925. No fishing tackle or swords were taken on the occasion.

Mr. Evans applied for a limited certificate for a gun on the 5th September, but as an application for a similar permit in respect of the same gun was received from a Mr. O'Connor, no certificate has yet been issued.

A muzzle-loading pistol and a quantity of percussion caps and accessories for making shot, were seized during the visit, and proceedings for the illegal possession of these articles are about to be instituted against Mr. Evans.
