Vol. 13 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. CARLOW LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can state whether the lands known as Kellistown, Moyal, and Ducketts Grove, in the County Carlow, have been offered to the Land Commission, and, if so, if he can state the result of such negotiations.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands referred to were offered for sale to the Land Commission. The owners are not prepared to accept the price which the Commissioners are prepared to offer for the lands.

Is the Minister aware that at the time of the old Sinn Fein Party, of which I presume the Minister was also a member, persons who went down to Carlow told the people there to guarantee the price of the land and that they would make it right when they got into power in the new Dáil? Does the Minister intend to introduce legislation whereby the guarantors will be made safe, and the land will be left so that it could be divided by the Land Commission?

Mr. HOGAN

There was a number of supplementary questions which, possibly, the Deputy could have asked me and in reply to which I could have given him a considerable amount of information; but I did not expect that he would make the case that the old Sinn Fein Party told the people down there to give this guarantee and that they would make it all right when they would come into power. I never heard that. I may say that there are proposals before the Minister for Finance for dealing with such cases as this.
