Vol. 13 No. 9

WRITTEN ANSWER. - ALLOWANCE TO NATIONAL SOLDIER.

asked the Minister for Defence whether Volunteer Murphy, No. 42012, joined the National Army at Cork on February 4th, 1923; whether he had to obtain board and lodging in the city with the consent of the Military Authorities, as there was not sufficient accommodation in the barracks; whether the usual allowance of 4/- per day was not paid to him owing to the failure of his Commanding Officer to sign the necessary certificate; whether the then Assistant Command Transport Officer at Cork has certified Volunteer Murphy's claim for such allowance, and whether, in view of this, he is prepared to sanction the arrears of allowance due to this man, and, if not, if he will state his reasons for not doing so.

A cheque in payment of the arrears due is being sent to Private Murphy to-day.
