Vol. 13 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. CORK ESTATES.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if the Land Commission has completed the purchase of the following estates in East Cork, namely:— The Uniake Estate, Mount Uniake, Killegh; Pyne Estate, Kilcor, Castlelyons; Morrissey Estate, Knockanarrig, Fallow, and the Barrymore Estate, Condonstown, Fota, and, if so, if he will see his way to have those lands distributed or apportioned to suitable applicants in time for Spring cultivation; also, if he will get the proper machinery working to enable him to buy at a reasonable price from purchased and unpurchased tenant farmers with large holdings, portions or the whole of which they are anxious to sell to meet the payment of arrears of rent and other liabilities, for distribution amongst uneconomic holders, landless men and evicted tenants.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission have made offers which have been accepted by the owners for the purchase of the Uniake Estate and for lands of Ardra, Ballyrolane, on the Pyne Estate.

An offer is about to issue for the purchase of lands on the Barrymore Estate, and as regards the Morrissey Estate the question of its acquisition is under consideration.

As regards the suggestions in the last part of the question, the application of owners of holding to sell the same or portions thereof in each case is carefully considered by the Commissioners.
