Vol. 13 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FINANCIAL CLAIMS UNDER TREATY.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Finance whether any notification has been received from the British Government of the amount of their claim under Article 5 of the Treaty, and whether any counter-claim has yet been made by the Executive Council under the same Article, and, if either or both of these claims have been made, what are the amounts of such claims respectively.

A notification was received from the British Government in regard to their claim under Article 5 of the Treaty. No counter-claim was made by the Executive Council, as it was their view that pending the completion of the steps contemplated by Article 12, the matter could not be discussed. The demand put forward by the British Government was for a sum of 157¾ million pounds in addition to which it was urged that other claims that had previously been formulated by them should be brought into the ultimate financial settlement. These claims totalled approximately 12½ million pounds.
