Vol. 13 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. CORK MINE EXPLOSION.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that early in 1923 Patrick Boyle, of Farranthomas, Newcestown, Co. Cork, was taken from Newcestown Roman Catholic Church by National troops to remove barricades on the roads; whether he is aware that while engaged in the work a concealed mine exploded, killing two men and injuring Boyle very seriously, and if he will state the reasons why Boyle received no compensation in respect of his injuries.

The application of Patrick Boyle for compensation in respect of injuries sustained in the circumstances described by the Deputy was carefully considered by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. The applicant was a member of the Irregular organisation, and as the injuries were not sustained without default on his part the Committee were unable, in accordance with their terms of reference, to make a recommendation for the payment of compensation.
