Vol. 13 No. 21

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE. - GARDA SIOCHANA PENSIONS ORDER.

I move:—

That the Dáil hereby approve of the Gárda Síochána Pensions Order, 1925, made on the 19th day of October, 1925, by the Minister for Justice, with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, under Section 8 of the Gárda Síochána Act, 1924, and Section 13 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925, and laid before the Dáil on the 19th day of November, 1925.

This is to make provision for the payment of pensions and gratuities to the members of the Gárda Síochána and for the payment of pensions, allowances, and gratuities to the widows, children and dependents of deceased members. It will apply to all members of the amalgamated force other than those who were serving in the Dublin Metropolitan Police prior to the 15th March, 1924. These latter will continue to be governed as regards their pension rights by the statutes and statutory orders which have hitherto applied to them. Before the order comes into operation it has to be approved by Resolution of each House of the Oireachtas. It has been approved by the Seanad.

Question put and agreed to.
