I would ask to be discharged from the Committee to investigate the duties on tobacco to which I was appointed by the Committee of Selection, as I cannot act on the Committee.

The Committee of Selection can appoint another member. I take it that Deputy Gorey was the nominee of his own party.
Might I say that Deputy Michael Doyle is prepared to act in Deputy Gorey's place.
I prefer that the appointment should be made by the Selection Committee, but I understand the Committee on this tobacco question is to meet to-morrow.
There is no occasion for the Committee of Selection to meet inasmuch as Deputy Doyle is replacing another member of the same party.
I take it that the Dáil will agree to the nomination of Deputy Michael Doyle to replace Deputy Gorey.
