Vol. 14 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARREARS OF ANNUITIES.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what is the amount (a) chargeable to each county of the sum drawn from the Guarantee Fund in respect of purchasers' annuities in arrear; (b) to be credited to each county in respect of old arrears which have been recovered, (c) of arrears outstanding on the 16th February, 1926.

The reply to this question would involve the reading of two long columns of figures. Perhaps it would meet the Deputy's requirements if I handed him a copy of the answer and circulated it in the Official Report.

I am satisfied.

Reply as follows:—

The figures which the Deputy asks for in (a) and (b) of his question are as follows:—

County.

Amount chargeable to each County of the sum drawn from the Guarantee Fund in respect of arrears of Land Purchase Annuities for the year ended 31st January, 1926.

Amount credited to each County on account of repayments of arrears made in the year ended 31st January, 1926.

In regard to the third part of the question, the amount of accumulated arrears outstanding on the 31st January, 1926, was £642,668 18s. 10d.

I agreed to accept the Minister's statement without having it read but I find that he has not answered my query (c).

I answered the question as I understood it. I think the Deputy had better put down another question as I understood I gave him all the information that was asked for, except as to date. The 16th February is the certifying date but the certification is in respect of 31st January.

What I wanted to know was how much was outstanding on 31st January? The Minister gave me how much was short this year and how much was paid on account of old arrears. I want to know how much of the old arrears are outstanding now?

That is at the bottom of the table.

No; I have a blank sheet.

The amount is £642,668 18s. 10d.

The Deputy will get a copy of the correct sheet.
