Vol. 14 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILCOCK POSTAL EMPLOYEE'S PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he can state what pension or gratuity it is proposed to give Patrick Boylan, Kilcock, County Kildare, who has been deprived of his situation owing to direct motor delivery from Dublin to the districts of Kilcock, Donadea and Coolcarrigan, and whose service in the Post Office exceeds thirty-seven years.

Mr. Patrick Boylan was contractor for the mail car service between Kilcock and Coolcarrigan under a contract terminable at any time on three months' notice by either side, which notice was duly given by the Department prior to the introduction of the official motor service. No award of a pension or gratuity to a mail car contractor is permissible under the Superannuation Acts.

Arising out of the answer, in view of the long time that this man has been connected with the postal service, will the Minister view the case sympathetically and see if any post can be found for him? He is a man pretty well advanced in years, and as the employment has been taken from him there is practically nothing else for him to do there.

I realise the hardship.
