Vol. 15 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SUPERANNUATED OFFICIALS' PENSIONS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will direct the Secretaries of County Councils in the Saorstát to pay monthly, when requested, the pensions of superannuated officials, including those who were retired as the result of amalgamation; whether many of them were paid monthly previous to amalgamation and the abolition of District Councils, and whether he is aware that the change to quarterly payments inflicts hardship on superannuated officials whose credit is limited to shorter periods than three months.

Under the Public Bodies Order, 1925, payments of pensions can be made monthly. I am not aware of any County Councils having insisted on quarterly payments. If it is so, and if the Deputy will give me particulars, I will be pleased to have the matter looked into.
